Many schools do not want to sacrifice quality for lower cost when purchasing wood laboratory furniture. Longo understands this and has worked with Labscape to create a wood furniture line just for the K-12 science lab environment. This line of laboratory furniture has many standard sized lab cabinets and table variations – and if you are not sure if the lab furniture is appropriate for your science classroom, you may email Nat Longo (nlongo@longoinc.com) for assistance. Nat Longo has been designing and building educationally correct, safe school science labs for 25+ years.
Longo also offers high quality plastic laminate casework from Stevens Industries. Stevens’ versatile line of cabinetry and millwork are not only a great fit for the science lab, but for early childhood classrooms, art rooms, music rooms and libraries. We posted previously about Stevens ID Systems Designer Series of Furniture.

The Sheldon Axis Infinity Lab Table is the latest in innovative products distributed by Longo Associates. This student workstation has the ability to combine laboratory & lecture areas, thus eliminating the need for additional tablet arm chairs and/or two-student tables in a science classroom.
Another application for this modern student lab table is the science room renovation. Older school building tend to have smaller classrooms, regardless of how the room is to be used. In many instances these old classrooms when undergoing a renovation project do not have the room to safely (and cost effectively) house separate laboratory and lecture areas. The Axis table in this case would safely occupy the classroom space currently available in creating a modern laboratory setting that still retains a classic lecture experience.
Just a reminder that Longo also designs and furnishes art rooms – we can provide both wood and plastic laminate cabinetry, spray booth, stackable storage for paintings & posters, craft benches, glazing booth, heavy duty benches, and art sink service centers.

Longo can provide and install art room furniture in NY, NJ, PA, CT, MA & RI.
Nat Longo provides commentary on the Sheldon Axis Infinity Table – table characteristics, construction details, and how this revolutionary product now allows for laboratory and lecture at the same location. This product increases classroom safety as the teacher is able to view students (and their lab activities) and floor space is amplified as tablet arm chairs are no longer needed.

Stevens has introduced a number of school furniture strategies to answer the question of obtaining quality laboratory casework (or general classroom cabinets, art room storage, library furniture, etc.) when the project is not very large. Stevens’ intent is to serve a marketplace that is typically ignored in comparison to large new school building/renovation projects.
When you have a large school construction project, your options are almost boundless as companies emerge (even if they are not educational furniture companies) to sell you laboratory casework, library furniture and general classroom cabinetry. But what happens when the project is small? Minor? Meaning, the institution is not adding a new wing, but simply renovating a school room, creating a lab space within a general classroom…Who do you call to assist you with the planning for that kind of project? What manufacturer provides high quality furniture, superior service and has local representation to advise on furniture selection?
Stevens (with Longo as their dealer in New England) has created a number of product lines to assist schools with their classroom furniture needs. Stevens created the ID System Catalog for those seeking a few laboratory cabinets, some library shelving, a couple of art room studio storage cabinets.

Do you have questions regarding purchasing new fume hoods or renovating your current lab to include the appropriate hood for your lab’s work? Longo’s laboratory design team can assist with your companies fume hood requirements.

This public school system’s design team decided their basis of design for the high school science labs would be Sheldon Laboratory Systems – and those science labs were to include the Sheldon Axis Infinity Lab Station. The general contractor decided to substitute another manufacturer’s product in lieu of Sheldon’s Axis Infinity Table. And, unfortunately, their subsitution was not rejected.
In this video, Nat Longo gives a description of the Sheldon Axis Infinity lab table and it’s unique characteristics. After viewing the video, take a look at the photos below. Do you think this table submitted by the general contractor is indeed an “equal” to Sheldon’s Axis Infinity table? Interested to hear what you have to say about the matter – It is my intent and hope that architects and interior designers will comment on this matter.
Now for the pictures of the lab table that was substituted for the Axis Infinity Table:
Coming soon will be a blog post with a point-by-point construction comparison. Architects with an interest to request a conference call with Longo’s laboratory consultants should email info@longoinc.com with the subject line “Sheldon Axis Infinity Differences” with phone number and you shall be contacted.

ColorTech fixtures are furnished with a powder coated finish to enhance the appearance of the fitting and to protect against corrosion. Unlike competing brands, ColorTech fixtures may be ordered in any one of five standard finish colors. This range of colors assures that the lab fittings will enhance the design scheme and aesthetics of the lab environment.
The coating materials used for ColorTech finishes are specially formulated for use on these products. In general, coating materials are blends of epoxy and polyurethane powders. These hybrid blends assure that the finished coating will have an optimum combination of chemical resistance, mar and abrasion resistance, and resistance to fading under ultraviolet (UV) light.
